Shipping Specialist
As the Import Shipping Specialist, you will report directly to the Import Shipping Manager and manage and coordinate the flow of goods entering a country – working closely with logistics providers, customs brokers, suppliers, internal planners, and finance. Your main responsibility will be to ensure that import shipments are compliant with customs and trade regulations, delivered on time, in good conditions and properly documented whilst being cost effective.
- Receiving and reviewing export documents from suppliers.
- Arrange and track incoming shipments (ocean, air, road) from suppliers to the final destination and coordinating with couriers and freight forwarders.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively manage delays, holds, and exceptions, updating stakeholders accordingly and escalating issues if required.
- Give customs clearance instructions to customs brokers and arrange pre-clearances where necessary, check the import declarations and obtain POD.
- Track and report packaging waste.
- Maintain Intrastat (IE).
- Support customs audits and respond to queries.
- Education in logistics, supply chain, international trade, or related field.
- Solid knowledge of international trade and customs (Incoterms, HS codes, duties, VAT, trade agreements).
- Demonstrable experience with shipping and logistics (ocean/Air LCL & FCL, Incoterms, freight quotes) and customer brokerage.
- Experience working with SAP.
- Strong Excel skills for tracking and reporting.
- Attention to detail and accuracy (especially in documentation and numbers).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with carriers and brokers.
- Proven organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments in parallel, solving problems and working under time pressure (e.g., customs hold, port congestion).
- Base salary: Up to £35,000 (depending on skills and experience)
