Reporting to the Head of Life Cycle Management the Hardware Development Engineer will be responsible for providing hardware development and testing support for the manufacturing of Optical Sorting products and increasing the quality, repeatability, and efficiency within a safe working environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to create, define & prioritise Hardware / Electrical LCM requests, setting & supporting implementation of global LCM goals.
Tasks/Responsibilities
The Hardware Development Engineer will be responsible for:
- Leading activities associated to Life Cycle Management.
- Creating, defining & prioritising Hardware / Electrical LCM requests.
- Responding to LCM tickets, escalating concerns where needed. Fault-finding and debugging electronic / electrical systems for Stakeholder / Customer Complaints, including 8D investigations.
- Supporting the product life cycle through to end-of-life, ensuring continuous improvement, maintaining obsolete components, product performance and customer satisfaction.
- Providing feedback to development team, from LCM lessons learned and best practices.
- Supporting compliance (e.g. NRTL, EMC and regulatory, etc.)
- Leading activities associated to supporting stakeholders.
- Providing manufacturing files to PCB manufacturers and collaborate to resolve technical queries and requirements, associated to both existing & new designs.
- Maintaining, design and implement Test Procedures for Extensive System and Sub-Assemblies for Production Testing using custom test boxes, XJTAG and LabVIEW software.
- Visiting suppliers and other Buhler manufacturing sites to provide technical support / feedback on improving processes and equipment.
- Collaborating with design engineering teams to assist in the development and introduction of new products, staying current with new software and technologies.
- Designing both analogue and digital electronic circuits for new products as well as for effective testing.
- Supporting Manufacturing & Quality issues, including hands-on support to Manufacturing and Customer Complaints 8D investigations.
- Supporting manufacturing test equipment including Ejector, Camera, Final Testing etc.
Required Qualifications
- You will ideally have a bachelor’s degree in electronics or related field
- Hands-on Hardware Development.
- Ability to interpret Electrical and Electronic Schematics.
- Analog and Digital Electronics Design Experience.
- Fault-finding and Debugging of Electronic Systems and PCBs Experience.
- Ability to Design and Develop Test Equipment for Electronics.
- Ability to Utilise Lab Equipment (Bench PSU, oscilloscope, signal generators, etc).
- Competence to create Test Procedures and Liaise with PCB Manufacturers.
- LabVIEW Design for Testing.
- Design Machine Test Procedures.
- Obsolescence and Product Life-cycle Management Experience.
- Signal Integrity Knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Optical and Camera Systems Experience.
- JTAG Boundary Scan Testing.
- PCB Design Experience via Altium or Mentor Xpedition.
- FPGA and Embedded Design Experience.
