Buhler Inc. seeks a full-time Senior Field Service Technologist based in Cary, NC. The Senior Field Service Technologist installs, tests, maintains, adjusts, and repairs automated electromechanical equipment for customers and provides training for customers. This position establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers, including meeting the daily service maintenance and repair needs of the customers’ equipment.

Specific duties include:

  1. Repair, install, troubleshoot, inspect, and modify Buhler electromechanical equipment at customer sites and in-house workshop (Leybold Optics Industry).
  2. Install and program machine and instrumentation software in microprocessor-based systems for Optics Ophthalmic machinery and ancillary equipment, including providing pre-inspection visits and training for customers.
  3. Test performance of electromechanical assemblies using test instruments, such as Helium Leak Detector, Refrigeration Leak Detector, Residual Gas Analyzer, Digital Multimeter, Megaohm Meter, and Oscilloscope.
  4. Provide field service of new electromechanical machines, used machines, upgrades, and retrofits, applying experience with vacuum technology, evaporation, and sputtering processes for visible spectrum and UV for Ophthalmic and Precision Business for customers in North, Central, and South America.
  5. Modify, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, equipment, and systems to ensure proper functioning.
  6. Assess customer needs regarding maintenance, spare parts, modernization, and improvement of automated electromechanical process.
  7. Design of Clean Room layout in 3D models using AutoCAD, and Google SketchUp, as well as design of electrical schematic and service diagrams.
  8. Provide technical support externally and internally.
  9. Develop, organize, and provide customer and internal training programs for automated electromechanical systems and processes.
  10. Assist Customer Service to generate quotations and orders.
  11. Participate in special projects, such as product development, sales visits to customers/vendors, and demonstration of equipment to customers/vendors.
  12. Promote Buhler Customer Service and help customers to plan future service.

The technologies and tools utilized by the Senior Field Service Technologist include mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components on machines used for Ophthalmic, precision, and 3D industries: Optics Ophthalmic machinery and all ancillary equipment composing Anti-Reflecting (AR) coating; full production process of ophthalmic lenses for eyeglasses; precision optics, optoelectronics, flexible electronics, flexible packaging, 3D coating, and large-area coating; industrial electricity; hydraulic and pneumatic systems; sputtering, PECVD, plasma-assisted evaporation, machine automation, optical monitoring. Domestic and international travel required up to 75% of the time.

 

This position requires two (2) years of service technology experience for ophthalmic coating centers and instruments installation.

Experience must include two (2) years of experience, which may be concurrent, in all of the following:

  1. Vacuum technology, evaporation, and sputtering processes for visible spectrum and UV.
  2. Testing performance of electromechanical assemblies using test instruments, including the following: Helium Leak Detector, Refrigeration Leak Detector, Residual Gas Analyzer, Digital Multimeter, Megaohm Meter, and Oscilloscope.
  3. Installing and programing machine and instrumentation software in microprocessor-based systems for Optics Ophthalmic machinery and ancillary equipment, including providing pre-inspection visits and training for customers.
  4. Working with mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components on machines used for Ophthalmic, precision, and 3D industries.
  5. Utilizing 3D technical drafting software including AutoCAD, and Google SketchUp.
