Buhler Inc. seeks a full-time Project Manager based in Plymouth, MN. The primary duty of the Project Manager is to organize, plan, and execute projects for installation of food processing equipment. Specific duties include: 1) Provide guidance and support to the project team’s design work for projects in consumer food and confectionary and other food processing equipment like baking and ready mixes, including the creation of schematics, plant design outlines, detailed plant design drawings, and material lists. 2) Establish and configure project schedules and communicate that effectively with all stakeholders to ensure completion of projects on time and in totality. Schedule milestones and delivery deadlines. Monitor dates to ensure adequate production workshop planning. 3) Prepare project plan; define scope requirements and coordinate within engineering and with other related departments to ensure accurate resource allocation and project fulfillment planning. 4) Resolve issues and answer questions that may occur during the design, manufacturing, installation and/or commissioning phase of projects; when appropriate, escalate complex questions and issues to leadership personnel for resolution or guidance. 5) Define technical specifications for manufactured equipment as well as for purchased items. Ensure quality standards and scope requirements are in line with the contract as well as process requirements. 6) Contribute to customer and vendor relationships, including interactions with customers on engineering design; providing answers and solutions to customers’ questions and problems; and supporting vendor interaction to understand the parts and services supplied. 7) Prepare and perform project reviews in collaboration with project engineers by reviewing flow sheets, plant design outlines, detailed plant design drawings, and equipment specifications. 8) Monitor project budget throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects, including ongoing budget forecasts and continuous cost analysis of projects; lead efforts to improve the gross results. When appropriate, escalate complex budgetary questions and issues to leadership for resolution or guidance. Ensure proper project deviation management; mitigate risks with remedial measures, monitor engineering hours, track project progress and compare with baseline to realize cost overruns. 9) Assess, approve, and expedite technical aspects of change orders and define effective claim strategies for customers, partners, and subcontractors in coordination with the Sales Account Manager. 10) Facilitate site briefing meetings and support site personnel at installation sites to ensure they have adequate information for project fulfillment. 11) Organize and participate in debriefing meetings following project conclusion. Close projects and update project documentation. The Project Manager will utilize the following technologies and tools: AutoCAD, Bentley 3D software, SAP, CAQ (Quality Management System) software, Navisworks, Microsoft Office. Domestic and international travel required 15% of the time.
This position requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automation Engineering, or related field. This position requires two (2) years of related project engineering experience. Experience must include (2) years of experience, which may be concurrent, with all of the following: 1) Leading projects and design work for food processing equipment projects, including the creation of schematics, plant design outlines, detailed plant design drawings, and material lists. 2) Establishing and configuring project schedules and communicating with stakeholders to ensure completion of projects on time. Scheduling milestones and delivery deadlines. Monitoring dates to ensure adequate production workshop planning. 3) Monitoring the project budget throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects, including ongoing budget forecasts and continuous cost analysis of projects; leading efforts to improve the gross results. When appropriate, escalating complex budgetary questions and issues to leadership for resolution or guidance. Ensuring proper project deviation management; mitigating risks with remedial measures, monitoring engineering hours, tracking project progress and comparing with baseline to realize cost overruns. 4) Contributing to customer and vendor relationships, including interactions with customers on engineering design; providing answers and solutions to customers’ questions and problems; and supporting vendor interaction to understand the parts and services supplied. 5) Utilizing the following technologies and tools: AutoCAD, Bentley 3D software, SAP, CAQ (Quality Management System) software, Navisworks, Microsoft Office. All experience may be gained concurrently. Experience must be gained after completion of Associate’s degree. Domestic and international travel required 15% of the time. Salary: $88,000 to $110,000/year.
